1. Think like mathematician
As an educator, we must teach students to think like a mathematician. To think like mathematician is far more than just learning to use mathematics techniques. Mathematical thinkers have a way of seeing, representing and analyzing their world by using mathematics to explain situation and solving problems.
There are 3 parts to develop into mathematical thinking:
- Developing a mathematic point of view. Valuing the process as well as applying them to problems within and outside life.
- Using tools to make sense as well as developing conceptual structures of mathematics.
- Developing competence with the tools of the trade.
2. Constructive Theory
This theory believes that students are the knowledges maker. They form the information themselves through their own understanding. During classroom activities, we must construct more activities involving them to take part in answering and solving questions rather than be a passive learner. As the facilitator in the classroom, we act as observer to identify, rectify and suggest some examples to theirs' solutions.
3. Motivation
Motivations are intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. We can give merit and praise to students who do all theirs' homework. Students scored excellent result in examination. We can reward them with some small gift such as books and keychain. This will further motivate them to strive in the next level of theirs' life.
4. Feedback
Feedback from students after each class either in written form or verbal form are good to remind the teacher body language, knowledge content , tone and dressing. Teachers can improve from those feedback though sometimes those commenting might be quite straight forward. However, I think we should take them openly.
5. Identifying misconception
Through repeated exercises, consultation, observing behavior in solving questions are some of the ways to avoid misconception in certain topics in mathematics.
